(204b) The Mexican Coin Magic Bookshelf: Volume 1 Issue 2:  Last Revision: 03/14/05

This list contains some interesting and useful books, a few actual auction catalogs, and other reference items that might be of interest to Mexican coin collectors and numismatists.  This not a complete list by any means, but is a place to begin forming a nice Mexican Numismatic library.  If there is enough interest we may add to it in the future?  Let us know if we should update it.

Auction Catalogs of some of the Great Mexican Sales:

It is a shame that many current and past Mexican coin dealers have produced only a hand-full of catalogs or fixed price lists.  These include Mike Dunigan and Louis Collins or as in the case of Don Canaparo, none that I’m aware of at this time.  Many Mexican specialty dealers sell the vast majority of their prime and rarest coins in Private Treaty sales, thus making it hard to include these sales in my population studies.  Especially secretive are some of the better and more well known, but even the two Richards (Ponterio and Long) have sold many of their rarest coins by private treaty, so I recommend that you become customers of these Mexican Specialty dealers!

There have been many public sales having only one to several nice to several rare Mexican coins in them from many sources.  Listed below are a few auction catalogs that we consider to be some of the better to great catalogs containing many more Mexican coins than average catalog.  This is at least a place for you to begin your library.

Mehl, B. Max- this dealer handled many Mexican rarities early, here are a few of the bigger sales:

            Capt. J.A. Anderson: (02/30)

Thomas Voetter: (01/43) Many Mexican Rarities

NASCA- Numismatic and Antiquarian Service Corp of America- this firm handled many rare coins in 1970s
