Introduction to FoxLair Mexican Republic Decimal Gold Numbering System

This month we continue our series with the first publicly published copy of the FoxLair Mexican Republic DAM Decimal Gold Master List©. It is a complete listing of published, unlisted, and suspected DAMs (Dates, Assayers and Mintmarks) for the gold Pesos (20, 10, 5, 2½, and 1 Pesos) found by this author during almost 20 years of research. This listing is copyrighted, but is provided for the use of all interested parties with the purpose of helping advance Mexican Numismatics and building a new Unified Numbering system for all Mexican coinage.  Please note that these listings also contain certain probable Dates, Assayers, or Mintmarks, and a few error listings that could have an effect on the system.

Some individual listings are not currently confirmed by the author, but have been listed for practical reasons, for who am I to dispute a coin exists, if someone else says it does?   I hope this Master List will be helpful, allowing you to think and ponder about my proposed overall scheme for a Mexican Republic Unified Numbering System for the coinage of the Republican Era.

At this time I would like to solicit your input for and opinions about this Unified Numbering System, expressly items that I haven’t addressed, changes and DAMs I may not be aware of.  If you have ideas or changes that need to be made, (this can include missing assayers, years or mintmarks) that I’m currently unaware of, please contact me.  Also I would like to have any information about hoards that have been found; other collections or collectors, and historical data that is not common knowledge or which has been unpublished in the recent past.  Your help and input is needed to make this Mexican Republic Unified Numbering System complete!

I may be reached by phone (956) 943-8409 or email FoxLairAJ@aol.com.  Please contact me at your convenience either day or night.  If you call my phone and don’t get an answer… please leave a message on my answering machine, as we are traveling a lot to look at other collections and libraries, I promise to get back to you as soon as possible.  Or you may reach us by mail at:

Ralph Poucher, FoxLair, P.O. Box AJ, Port Isabel, TX 78578 U.S.A.

The following list is for the Republican Decimal Gold coinage only! You may order the latest version of the complete listing for all the Mexican Republic Gold and Silver coinage (printed form or on 3.5 Floppy Disk) by contacting me or going to the Mexican FoxLair website [_].  Sometime in the future we may will tackle the other areas of the Mexican coinage if there is enough interest and we can find other specialized collectors to help complete new listings for these coins.

Thanks in advance for your interest and help!  It is our sincere desire that these tables will be helpful to all collectors, making it easier to communicate with others about our wonderful world of Mexican Republic Coins.
