For this issue of The Photo Album we decided to open the vault where the FoxLair Reference Collections reside. We have selected a couple of the choice high-grade coins from each mint where we have good photo reproductions of 10 and 20 Pesos, from the hundreds of coins that lay hidden there. Let's start with the 20 Pesos and work our way down to the 10 Pesos. If you would like to see more, or even some of the smaller denomination gold pesos in the future, you will let us known? Contact us at MexCoinMagic@aol.com and tell us what you want to see.
The Mexican Republic 20 Pesos:
The Alamos Mint: Sorry we have been unable to acquire good photographs of any Alamos 20 Pesos at this time.
The Chihuahua Mint: Our first 20 Peso specimen is one of the more common (sic) from Chihuahua, but it is an Unlisted OverDate 7/7/6-2/? and Normal Assayer Style of 1869 Normal Mintmark. This is the example was last seen in the Heritage-Savannah River Site Collection Lot#14033, thanks to its new owner we are able to give you a good look at this coin:

Chihuahua CH 1872 M 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Ca-1872-1102
Our second Chihuahua 20 Pesos is a much rarer coin and again is an Unlisted Overdate, this time a 3/2, and is from the same collection as the earlier coin:

Chihuahua CH 1873 M 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Ca-1873-1102
The Culiacan Mint: Our first 20 Peso specimen from this mint is a really rare bird and is the only one I have a record of:

Culiacan Cn 1872 P 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Cn-1872-1101
Our second Culiacan 20 Pesos is another very difficult coin to find and also appeared recently in the Heritage-Savannah River Site Collection Lot#14037. This coin is not the regularly listed 7/6, but in fact is 1897/1896 OverDate:

Culiacan Cn 1897 M 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Cn-1897-1101
The Durango Mint: Sorry we have been unable to acquire any good photographs of a Durango 20 Peso at this time.
The Guanajuato Mint: Our first 20 Peso specimen from Guanajuato is one of the more common 20 Pesos, but it is an Unlisted OverDate 2/1 example:

Guanajuato Go 1872 S 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Go-1872-1102
Our second 20 Pesos from Guanajuato is a much rarer DAM for which I have only two recorded sales and this one is the OverAssayer M/M/S:

Guanajuato Go 1877 M 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Go-1877-2101
The Hermosillo Mint: Sorry we have been unable to acquire any photographs of 20 Pesos from Hermosillo at this time.
The Mexico City Mint: Our first 20 Peso specimen from this mint is one of the more common Mexico City 20 Pesos, but it is an Unlisted 2nd 8/7 OverDate & Normal Assayer example:

Mexico City Mo 1878 M 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Mo-1878-1102
Our second Mexico City 20 Pesos should be a real treat for all 20 Pesos collectors because this is a generally Unlisted DAM and this may be the first published photograph of it, even though it is not in color:

Mexico City Mo 1895 B 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Mo-1895-2101
The Oaxaca Mint: Our only reproduction for the elusive Oaxaca 20 Pesos is one of the more common DAMs, but it is still a worthy specimen:

Oaxaca Oa 1870 E 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Oa-1870-1101
The Zacatecas Mint: Our only 20 Pesos for Zacatecas is another photograph that we feel privileged to have because it is of such a major rarity. Again I could secure only a black/white photograph, but I'm sure you will enjoy seeing this coin:

Zacatecas Zs 1875 A 20 Pesos- FoxLair# Zs-1875-1101
The Mexican Republic 10 Pesos:
The Alamos Mint: Our first Alamos 10 Pesos is a rather rare (it could possibly be Unique) coin that I have recorded only two sales for at this time:

Alamos As 1880 L 10 Pesos- FoxLair# As-1880-1101
Our second Alamos 10 Pesos is another of those coins that appeared in the Heritage-Savannah River Site Collection Sale and was Lot#14010. Even though it wasn't mentioned in the Heritage Catalog, this coin is definitely an OverDate, even though I can't be sure what it is at this time, therefore I call it 87/??:

Alamos As 1887 L 10 Pesos- FoxLair# As-1887-1101
The Chihuahua Mint: I'm sorry we have been unable to acquire a single good photograph of any 10 Peso from Chihuahua at this time, thus indicating just how difficult these coins are to find.
The Culiacan Mint: Our first example of the elusive Culiacan 10 Pesos is an Unlisted 87/86 OverDate:

Culiacan Cn 1887 M 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Cn-1887-1101
Our second example of a Culiacan 10 Pesos is another Unlisted OverDate, this time a 5/4:

Culiacan Cn 1895 M 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Cn-1895-1101
The Durango Mint: Our first example of a Durango 10 Pesos is a fully Repunched Date, but it is not an OverDate:

Durango Do 1875 M 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Do-1875-1101
Our second Durango 10 Pesos is another fully Repunched Date specimen, it is a shame it has a couple of tiny rim flaws:

Durango Do 1876 M 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Do-1876-1101
The Guadalajara Mint: The first example of a Guadalajara 10 Pesos is a fairly common coin:

Guadalajara Ga 1871 C 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Ga-1971-1101
Our second Guadalajara 10 Pesos is a more difficult DAM to find:

Guadalajara Ga 1872 C 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Ga-1972-1101
The Guanajuato Mint: I'm sorry we have been unable to acquire good photographs or scans of any 10 Peso from Guanajuato at this time.
The Hermosillo Mint: I'm sorry we have been unable to acquire any 10 Peso photographs or scans from Hermosillo at this time.
The Mexico City Mint: The first Mexico City 10 Peso in our snap-shot is a rather common DAM, but is an Unlisted 70/69 OverDate:

Mexico City Mo 1870 C 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Mo-1970-1101
Our second Mexico City 10 Pesos is a little more difficult to find:

Mexico City Mo 1884 M 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Mo-1984-1101
The Oaxaca Mint: Our first Oaxaca 10 Peso is a fairly common DAM, but it too is an Unlisted 71/69 OverDate:

Oaxaca Oa 1871 E 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Oa-1871-1101
Our second Oaxaca 10 Pesos is a much more difficult coin to find:

Oaxaca Oa 1881 E 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Oa-1881-1101
The Zacatecas Mint: Our first Zacatecas 10 Peso is very difficult DAM to find and our specimen is both an Unlisted OverDate 2nd 8/7and OverAssayer S/H:

Zacatecas Zs 1878 S 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Zs-1878-1102
The second Zacatecas 10 Peso is another tough DAM to find and is also an Unlisted 3rd 8/7 OverDate, plus all of the Balance Scale side legends have been repunched:

Zacatecas Zs 1888 Z 10 Pesos- FoxLair# Zs-1888-1102
